Frequently Asked Questions
When it comes to the safety and education of you, your children,or your teens, there are a lot of questions to ask. Here is a collection of the most common questions parents (and kids!) ask about Greenwich 1on1 sports training. If you have additional questions, please feel free to call us (203) 344-9277 or send an e-mail to info@greenwich1on1.com
Q. What is special about Greenwich 1on1's sessions?
A. Greenwich 1on1 utilizes training and coaching techniques developed for professional and college-level teams, but tailored to be developmentally appropriate depending on the age of the child/teen. In short, the kids who attend our training learn more and become better athletes.
Q. Who are your coaches and what makes them special?
To be hired by Greenwich1on1, it's not enough for a coach to have just been a great athlete; he/she must also have teaching or coaching experience. Our coaches are primarily former Division I-III players, semi-pro, or pro players who have worked with people of all ages in a variety of settings. Occasionally, we also hire individuals who were outstanding high school varsity athletes if they have substantial coaching experience. We also look for people with great enthusiasm for teaching, patience, professionalism, and strong character as we know that kids look to up to coaches. Our coaches must be good role models!
Q. Other clinics and classes charge less. Why are yours more expensive?
In most other classes, practices, and clinics, you will see a ratio of one coach per 10-15 participants. We don't do that because we know that people learn better in a small setting. We also pay our coaches well because they are all superior athletes, educators, and individuals. But in the long run, you will probably save money because with more personal attention, learning occurs much more quickly.
Q. What will my child learn or gain from Greenwich 1on1 sessions?
A. Kids and teens will develop an understanding of how to become unstoppable! This translates to an enhanced sense of self-confidence and "unstoppability" in life. They will learn by practicing specifically designed drills and techniques in an intensive, but fun, setting.
Q. What do kids need to bring or wear to training sessions?
A. They will need proper athletic shoes and apparel. Comfortable shorts and t-shirts are appropriate. You may want to provide them with a healthy snack, and water or a sports drink.
Q. What is the benefit in signing up for multiple trainings?
A. Athletes benefit greatly from multiple trainings. During each training they work on mastering the lessons from previous trainings. This strengthens the "muscle memory" started in previous trainings.
Q. Do parents need to be present during the trainings?
A. Parents do not need to stay, but we welcome you and do recommend that you stay for some or all of the first few session(s) so you gain an understanding of what your child is learning. This will also help your child should you choose to practice with him/her in between sessions. We do ask that you plan to return 10 minutes before the training ends to allow for delays and prevent additional fees.
Q. Does Greenwich 1on1 use the same drills at every training session?
A. Many of the fundamental drills remain the same because that is how you master a sport and develop muscle memory. As athletes progress in abilities, they are given higher level drills.
Q. Will my child be safe?
A. Absolutely! Safety is our number one priority. Greenwich1on1 has very strict rules. For example: kids are not permitted to leave the training area- except to use the restroom and when using the restroom will be accompanied by an adult waiting directly outside of the restroom. Most of our coaches are CPR/First Aid Certified and have been thoroughly trained to never be in a compromising situation with the athletes.
